Can't put my 915 in gear

Took the car out for a spin. Parked. Started the car to get back, pressed the clutch... heard a "click" or "snap" or "pop." Couldn't get it into 1st. Went to 2nd, then to neutral, then into 1st. Drove home with no problems. Now can't get it into ANY gear. Just hear grinding whichever slot I move the lever into, as if pressing on the clutch wasn't doing anything. Clutch pedal still feels as before.

Is the clutch cable-actuated? Could it break? Slip off a pin or something? Don't have any manuals yet so I have no clue where to begin. Under the floor board? It's a 73.5T and it ran real strong until this.

thanks,
dave.

Don't drive it. Could be the releast bearing fork has come off the actuating shaft, but could also be a tranny issue. I have heard that when our trannies WILL NOT go into gear, we should stop driving them immediatly. Apparently, when they WON'T go into gear, very likely a part has broken loose in there, and driving the car will destroy the tranny.

Again, your situation may be more clutch-related, but even so, if your clutch feels the same as before, I would not expect the problem to be a simple, exterior thing like a broken cable.

Easy to rule out the cable, though. Buddy system will work. Just press the pedal and have someone watch under the car to make sure it's working. If all seems ok, then it could be what Superman said. Which would suck! I hope it is a clutch cable. That's an easy and cheap fix.

How do I check if it's the clutch cable? (I know, I know... look while the other one is pressing the clutch) Do I have to lift the car? I've had it for such a short time, that I still haven't received the jack pad which I ordered from PP. Is it easier to see it from in front of the driver-side rear wheel, or from the rear 3/4 view where the single outlet for the muffler is?

Without a manual I don't even know which specific item I should be looking at. Anyone has an underbody diagram? Photo? If it is terminal, approx. how much would a 915 rebuild cost? Just want to know what barrel I'm staring into.

It's easier to jack the car, but a mirror and a flashlight will do the trick. Have a friend look under the car about in-line with the rear torsion bar / front of the rear wheel well while you depress the clutch. The clutch cable is attached to an arm on the transmission (pretty easy to pick out). Even if the cable is moving the arm it is possible that the cable slipped out of adjustment.
