1971 911 interior setup help required
Needs some help / guidance on a set of interior wheel well panels (for “sweet transplant” build)
My late father had these previous releathered (and rest of interior) - but I don’t think the original panels were from this car??? Found a set of older black panels - that “fit” - but these don’t have cut outs for the seat belt - and May/may not have been from this car. Thinking the releathered ones may have been from an older 86+ model - with different C pillar’s or possibly a Targa model? Anyhow - think I just will have to pull back leather and modify top and side to fit? The rear deck lid also appears different “design” than the order black panel found also. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Eric Last edited by Ecarnell; 08-07-2025 at 06:20 AM.. |

In theory that should work as long as you’re comfortable modifying the structure of the panel.
3M super 90 or barge contact cement would be a good adhesive to bond the leather back down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks - ended up pulling back leather and trimming the side panel and got to fit , but ….. when doing a dry fit with parcel shel, top rail and rear window side pcs sure doesn’t line up. Suspect we just need to cut back rear wheel panel pcs more to only have parcel shelf/top rail/rear window leather exposed - can anyone help confirm?
(Note roof liner not pulled tight and glued down yet - as want to fit up rear window latches first ) Thanks ![]()

I'm good with tools.

Black are definitely the earlier 70's rear cards. There was also a separate piece that fits over the piece you show (in black) that hides the front seat belt retractors. The later rear cards look great.

The rear parcel shelf will fit quite a bit higher in the car that it's resting position at present - once all the sound deadening and carpet and rear seats are installed, it will find a natural position that makes more sense, I think.
If it's a re-covered used panel, there will be some screw holes in the panel that correspond to some holes in the sheet metal that may give a clue. I am pretty sure your Dad had the entire interior done at Heritage in BC? I'm sure they'd be happy to offer some advice if you really come upon something that doesn't make sense. Of course it will all make sense in the end. It might be worth pulling apart the RST to see how it's all put together!

Thanks Jonny- if only the RST was the same!
RST brown interior is from the old 86, so different parcel shelf design and no top rail - hence our dilemma. Already have installed the sound detaining - so level with be similar unless rear seat and carpet raise it much higher (no idea at this time) The sides are rear “could” have been releathered from different cars for sure - as my dad was collecting parts for years for this build. ![]()
