69E going to 2.2 with 2.7 heads and S cam. Use early MFI system or later?
Have a 2.0E with matching number so I'm going to use the original case.
Just doing 84 or 85mm slugs/cyl (2.2 or 2.25), later 2.4 or 2.7 heads, and likely an S cam or similar. Figured bumping up to a 2.2S would be perfect since it will mostly be a weekend back roads toy. I'll also have access to a later MFI system that came off a 72 2.2T. Complete. (pump, stacks, injectors, wiring, etc..) I know the 69E MFI is slightly different with the early single piece magnesium stacks vs later 2 piece plastic stacks, later has a cold start solenoid, etc.. Regardless of the MFI system used, the pump will still need to rebuild with a 2.2S space cam. So for a 69E, is there any benefits for running the later MFI system? The engine is going to be rebuild so everything is coming off anyway. Thanks |
You don't mention which throttle bodies you're going to be using. I suspect that both of the options that you listed are sized to match 32mm intake ports. Going to heads with a 36mm intake port could be an issue.
But as far as the pump, injectors, etc, I'm not sure if it will make a big difference if they are going to be rebuilt to match the new configuration anyhow. |

Now I need to find 35mm 69S stacks or later E/T 35mm stacks and throttle bodies. Seems everything I need is unobatinium so I'm sure those parts will be easy and cheap.... EDIT: Or bore out the 72T throttle bodies to 36mm and find S stacks. That way I can keep the original E parts original. |
The E stacks can be opened as there is enough to open where the T does not

2.7 S heads can work. You’ll need to drill and tap them for the MFI injectors, that’s what I did.

Get in line. You're looking at about 6 months turn around for pump and throttle body work. Then a shop for dyno work if you want. Four months and my throttle bodies are being dealt with. Six, down from 20, pumps ahead of me last I checked.
