Switching engine mangement systems

A few years ago I acquired my 1980 911SC with a 3.2 SS twin-plug motor, managed by an Electromotive Tec3r ecu and running PMO ITBs. Until recently, it has run flawlessly. Suddenly, while driving, the motor stopped with no warning and would not start. It appears the ecu is functioning, but due to its age and antiquated software, I am thinking of changing to a newer EMS (eg: Haltech) or possibly PMO carbs. Any suggestions or recommendations on the easiest way to accomplish this? Any help is much appreciated.
