Rubber Coating on Gas Tank

What is it? Can it be purchased, sprayed on?
My tank has a chunk missing on the bottom and I don't want it to rust.

That product is available from Wurth. I just re-finished my tank with it. Great stuff. For more information and a Great source on all Wurth products contact MFollin@earthlink.net .

Do you know what it's called and can I buy on-line somewhere? I can't seem to find it.

I think it's just the Wurth undercoating product. Clean/chip/prep carefully -- maybe primer it first. You can buy the Wurth stuff here.

I just did mine with gray wurth stoneguard. Comes in an aerosal (sp) can. I sprayed it on thick and let it skin over, then used a sponge to try and match the factory texture. Texture results are okay, not perfect.

Color seems to be right. Interestingly it goes on very gray, almost silver. But after a few days it starts to fade to the lighter brownish gray of the factory tank coating.

I myself have the same exact issue. Chuck, I was not able to find the Wurth undercoating in any other color than black? Mine is kind of a greyish. Did you buy it off of this site? Do you know if this undercoating would keep this area from rusting as well. I have no rust yet and would like to keep it this way. Maybe a rust stop primer with the undercoating over it? Thanks!

I don't think Pelican has it. At least I couldn't find it here.

I got it from Parts Heaven. They had to special order it for me since they only stock black. They made me buy three cans since they special ordered, but it turned out I used them all!

They said their is no demand for gray, that's why they don't stock it. Wrong! When you call, tell them I sent you

I used POR15 on rust areas before applying the wurth.

The product you are looking for is Wurth SKS water borne body coat. It is available in tan and black. I got mine at my local autopaint store. It does require the use of a special applicator gun that is some elaborate mix of product pressure, air pressure, atomization flow and cost about $300. Thank god I borrowed one.

Mine is gray. I need enough to cover about a 1" square area. I really don't want to spend $50 on 3 cans.

All right, I'm chiming in again against my better judgement...

Wurth SKS Stoneguard and anti-corrosive compound is available in black, grey, beige, and I think white. I have a bottle of grey sitting in front of me, and the $50 gun I bought from Wurth to recoat my tank. No $300 gun needed. This stuff can be dabbled on with a swab or finger if pacthing a small area. $30 a bottle shipped from Wurth UPS. Color will not be an exact match to the tank. Here's a link to a thread showing my recoated tank.
Finally getting somewhere...project photos

If the chunk missing is under the car, just nail it with a $5 bottle of 3M undercoating and call it a day.

Hey BG, That really looks nice. You must have some PB&E experience to do that kind of work. BTW, how hard was that thing popped in the RF corner?
