Touch up paint question: For rock chips

Hi Guys,
I was watching this YouTube video last night of a guy restoring museum quality 911

https://youtu.be/Uz-zW-cLdUs?si=3JQ6HYbnZMcDQext

So I ordered the fine tip pen.

My questions are:

1. Where is a good source to find Grand Prix white 908 touch up paint? Will the dealer have the best match?

2. Do I need a primer first so the paint will stick to metal? And then a clear cost product?

I thought I just needed touch up paint but then most sellers online are getting into kits that have 5 different bottles of chemicals. I was hoping to simplify everything and do what the guy did in the video

Thanks

Artur

Our host sells official Porsche touch-up paint. I recently bought this container of the Guards Red, and it is a perfect match!

Came out nice Roger, matched well.

I had bad experience with pen style paint before. I did more research and ordered 2oz bottle from

Automotive touch up
https://www.automotivetouchup.com/

Question now is what grit wet sand paper do I use? 5000 or 6000?

Artur,
I watched that YouTube video a few years ago; purchased the pen; and did some touch-up work on my paint. Based on my experience, you'll need to be sure that you have a suitable paint thinner on hand as the tip of the pen easily clogs.

I would not be concerned about using a primer prior to applying the finish color paint. It would be good however to use an isopropyl alcohol dabbed on each location to ensure that any wax in those locations is removed prior to doing the touch up work.

There's a good chance that your Grand Prix white paint job on your car is single-stage, meaning there's no clear coat over the color (if the paint job on your car is the original finish.) If it's a repaint - that may not be the case.

I ordered my touchup paint from a Porsche dealer.

Best of luck with the process.

Cool

Thanks for the insight. Dealer was my first stop as wellbut they no longer carry the paint

I was also told that using a soft pick from the dentist would be a good way to dab the paint

Get it clean first. Ideally with a wax and grease remover (car paint shop quality) then layer it up. I use a toothpick and do about three applications of the paint. Only fill the paint chip hole, don't spread it around on the surrounding paint.

Do you wet sand afterwards to get it even with the original paint?
