Modified DAS roll bar mount pictures
I originally bought the DAS roll bar for my '86 cab just for an extra margin of safety on the street. A couple years later, I ended up doing quite a few track days each year. I've always been a little skeptical of the rear mount of the DAS bar, so I had a local fabrication shop build up some mounts and beef up the rear mounting strength with additional fastners. Here are pictures of the results. The small, goldish colored fastener is the original DAS mounting bolt that goes into the rear seat-back mount. The other three 3/8th bolts are the ones we added to beef it up. Just thought I'd share!

Hey, I am thinking about the DAS for a driver's ed event - I have an 87 cab - How do you like the fit and finish of the DAS? How about install. I would like to only put mine on for Autocross and DE. How long to bolt/unbolt - I know yours is more premanent now - but how about before?
Appreciate any info... Cabs rule!

The DAS bar is definitely high quality. I really like the fit and finish of the bar. I had mine powder coated, which I highly recommend. Shop around for rates to do that, though, as they will vary widely!
It doesn't take very long to bolt and unbolt it, especially with a cab. With a coupe, you have to take a seat out. The only thing that makes it difficult is that after welding, the bars typically have a little bit of a twist in them, which means that you probably will need a second person to "torque" the bar while you line up the holes and bolts and get everything threaded. The first time I put mine in, it was a bear. When I took it out to get powdercoated and put it back in, it wasn't very difficult at all. I think it is a good product. Be sure to search the archives, as there are a lot of threads on this bar and about as many opinions! ![]() Dean

Looks smart. I am curious how those bolts are anchored. They are into the chassis box section so the backside of that sheet metal isn't accesible. On second look, do I see a plate welded to the box section which is receiving the bolts?

Chuck,
Yes, they welded in plates to the box, bascially building a little "platform" that the DAS bar sits on. The three holes are threaded - there is no capture of the bolts from the other side (i.e. nuts). I know it is a compromise, but it is better than the single bolt in shear. Dean

Dean - Do you have a photo of the car with the roll bar in. Debating wether I want to do some DE's and spring for the roll bar. Did you have to remove the back seats?

Yeah, I'd like to see some pics too! Nice work, by the way.

I'll dig up some photos of the bar in the car and post them. Yes, Vance, you do have to remove the back seat "backs" for the DAS bar.
