3.2 Twin Plug heater duct clearance

Hi everyone,

A few other threads have covered something along these lines and although there was some info, I could not find a clear answer for my question related to a 3.2 engine.

I want to go twin plug (not staying 3.2) but retain as much of the original aesthetics as possible. So apart from fitting a single 12P rotor I hope to find a way to keep the heater ducting.

From what I've found it is not possible to keep it fully stock. Do you have any recommendations for of the shelf parts to replace (if needed) the orange and red ducts?

Does the bottom tin need replacing? I've read a turbo part is used but not sure if it is this part they are replacing.

I'd rather use the single distributor but ChrisBennet posted in 2002 that heating up the fan sideduct and reforming it should clear this 993 one. So that's a start...
Does someone have the diameter of the 12p distributor so I could check clearance?

Thanks for your input!

I don't have pictures for you, but in our experience when going either double dizzy, or single 12 plug dizzy, we had to use the 930 turbo distributor driver side heater socket and the passenger side heater socket from 69-76 models. Then the engine tins have to be changed over, the aux blower fan removed, exhaust side heater related tubing ; essentially backdating the system so you can get everything to work together. If fitting the 12 plug dizzy from a 964, you will also need to dimple the long piece of engine tin to clear the casting of the dizzy at its lowest point

Yes, found it on Pelican parts!

So, remove blower tubing, fit the 930 part on the LHS of the fan, create a hole in the tin to pass through a tube to hook up the exhaust and that's it? I can keep the entire right side stock?

Thanks!

I used a similar duct when removing my heater blowers on my 3.2.

I just used some of the heater box tubing to connect the duct to the heat exchanger tube through the tin. No modifications to the tin.

Hopefully its just as simple for you with twin plug.

PS, the aftermarket metal duct fit like ****. One of my coworkers wanted it to fabricate something else and traded me an NLA plastic duct that fit perfectly.

EDIT: mine looks similar to this except I had enough hose length to avoid adding the coupler

I've been thinking about this for my 3.2 to 3.4 conversion.

Digging into the ROW PET, I found that the Sweden engine 930.26 has heating duct work similar to LT86's last photo in the OP.

Here are the factory parts, that should convert the heater system.

Illustration: 105-10 Air Guide Engine Cover
Pos 5 Part# 911-106-083-01 Engine Cover Qty 1 (SC Side Engine Cover)
Pos 10 Part# 930-106-085-15 Engine Cover Qty 1

Pos 7 Part# 930-211-323-02 Hot Air Socket Qty 1
Pos 20 Part# 930-211-341-01 Hot-air Manifold Qty 1
Pos 21 Part# 999-512-349-0B/01/02 Hose Clamp SGT 50-70/9 Qty 4
Pos 22 Part# 930-211-341-02 Hot-air Manifold Qty 1
Pos 23 Part# 911-211-553-01 Flexible Pipe Qty 1
Pos 24 Part# 911-211-553-02 Flexible Pipe Qty 1

Illustration: 202-05 Exhaust System
Pos 21 Part# 930-211-335-01 Air Distributor Tube Qty 1

I'll be using a block off plate to send more cooling air to the engine and not sure which parts I'll use/modify to work on my build.

Did you ever complete this project?
