Ground point location?

Trying to locate and check/clean all grounds in 1986 911 Carrera Coupe. My electrical diagram for 1986-87 identifies a “G414” ground for rear tail lights and alot of other items but the location of the ground is not identified in the schematic showing the other ground points. Anyone know where this ground point is?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1757508103.png

I think its the 8mm stud just in front of the fuel filter , enginebay left side.

The major ground is a boss on the fuel rail, you can see the brown bundle under the air duct; but there is another one near the fuel filter, where more brown wires transit from around the fuse panel.

BTW, highly recommend changing out the old glowworm of a lamp in the engine bay with a LED unit. So much more quality light.

here are the 2 in the engine bay

1st one is on the left rail.
2nd one is behind the fuel filter

Yes, I found those. They are labeled G402 and G407. Still dont know where G414 is….maybe it was merged with the other 2.

Left taillight on your diagram (Bentley?) goes to G414

The Porsche workshop manual for the 86 shows left tail light going to ground point MP XIII with the diagram going to the left rear of the car

Here is an index for an 85 that describes the ground locations.
I assume the 86 is the same. The diagrams for the 86 do not have an index listing, probably because there was no change from 85.

Here is the drawing for the 85 that has everything in one spot for that MP XIII ground

thats has to be it. Thanks!

On my 1986 I only have 2 spades (containing a total of 15 brown wires) that connect to the intake. Your pic shows 4 spades.

My 84 does not have ground points on the impact absorbers as shown for the 85 and latter. That may be the difference.

How are you guys cleaning your grounds? Obviously taking them apart, but are you using sandpaper, wire wheels, electrical spray cleaneror what to clean them?

Yes. All of the above on different grounds.

brass tooth brush, scotch bright pads and Deoxit D5 electronic cleaner.

Clean the grounds and all the wire spades as well

For 3.6 conversions that have the DME mounted with vibration isolation mounts, in the rear seat well, there is a threaded boss for the rear seat hinge point. I put a #10 wire ground from the DME chassis to the threaded boss.

I have a can of Deoxit D5 electronic cleaner, but I’m surprised it doesn’t evaporate quickly. It seems oily. Is that normal?
