I would go with the satin black trim piant. I've used it previously on wiper arms and Fuchs center caps with great (very OEM looking) results.

Flat black on the Fuchs always seems to just make them look eternally dirty, with pad dust. Semi-gloss is the way to go for your mid-bling look.

For the bar, I'd go the same.

Definitely satin black for the wheels. Also, when you're done with that, try rubbing a little Vasoline on the anodized section. It will bring back that warm sheen that is unique to the Fuchs.

My wheels looked kind of gray. They were in great shape but the anodizing just looked dull. After I rubbed a little petroleum jelly on them, they came up like new.

Satin and vaseline are the way to go, no question. Looks factory original.

Wurth Satin, best sprayed through a HVLP system of course. If you use the "Rat can" be sure to set the can in hot water before spraying it and be sure to spray in a warm area.

What about the targa bar?

The satin finish is easier to maintain, like your interior walls of a house. If you use a flat, any and all finger prints and dirt shows and cleaning is almost impossible. Semi-gloss or satin paints clean up much better and look nicer longer.

I'll offer a slightly different take. Definitely the satin for the Targa bar - I did it this past weekend and the results are great.

Fuchs - the guys at carcareonline recommend using the flat lacquer, followed by a coat of wax. they said that the lacquer will stand up to the heat generated by the brakes better than the satin enamel.

I haven't done my wheels, so I can't speak to what the actual differences are.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to have to re-finish my targa bar soon and will use the same on the JMPRO fiberglass top when I get mine.

Of course they recommend that...they sell wax, don't they?

I'm going gloss on the wheels. Everyone I've seen is waxing and slopping this or that on them to make them look shiny...I'll post pics soon regardless of how they turn out...

I tried using vaseline on the fuchs but while it looked good it seemed to really attract brake dust. Maybe I used too much? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I saw the recommendation in the owners manual to use vaseline periodically - does it actually help to protect the finish?

Regards,
Markus

I want the satin finish but I am worried about it being too glossy. I don't want it to look like its "aftermarket painted".

Does anyone have a close up photo of the factory original targa bar ?

You really have to work the Vasoline into the wheel. And a little goes a long way. When doing all four wheels, I think I used maybe a couple capfulls.

I never thought metal could absorb liquids, but after using Vasoline, I have learned otherwise. After buffing the wheel with a soft cloth, there is absolutely no residue.

It won't. The satin trim paint is not glossy at all, and is the closest match I've found to the factory Targa bar, and black trim. I would also use it on the Fuchs. I would definitely not use flat black on the Targa bar, but that's just me. If you are still worried, find some scrap to test-shoot each and compare them side by side (and to a factory-painted Targa bar) before committing to either.

JK, The Wirth satin will look OEM, (factory), on targa bar and wheels. Any other gloss just looks 'wrong', IMO, but some people like 'em different.

I've always thought that the factory black on the wheels and other trim is just sublime, really beautiful, impossible to improve on. But it really is a subjective thing, I also think that polished or chrome wheels on a black trim car looks wrong to my eye.

Wurth Satin black is a very good match to the original color.

I also share your view speeder.

The wurth paint sold in Australia is the imported German made one called "Lacquer spray satin Gloss" 0893 349 005. It is not cheap and I can only purchase it via mail order .

Basically Im trying not to order the wrong paint. The satin factory look is what I want its just the word "gloss" that scares me.

Does anyone have the correct code for the satin black paint I have posted in the picture above ?

The Wurth satin black trim paint is #8930190 on the back of the label, and I think its an enamel, not a lacquer (but I'm not 100% sure on that)
