How to Adjust SWB Steering Column to Install Wood Dash

In a SWB 912, I have removed the aluminum dash and I am installing a factory 1966 wood dash with the metal backing.

I have found that the black steering column surround (pink arrow) appears too deep. Because the wood dash is thicker than the old aluminum, it sticks out about 3/16" or 5mm in the direction of the yellow arrow. The black surround used to go pretty much up against the aluminum. I can slide the surround out and tighten. But then the surround pushes into the back of the steering wheel.

These are the options, best I can tell:
(1) The 911s with wood had a shorter black surround
- I need to find one of those or cut about 5 mm off of the back of my black surround
(2) There is some way to adjust the column to pull it out 5 mm (red arrow) so when I tighten the steering wheel, it won't push back as much to hit the surround.

Any idea if there is a different surround for wood dashes?
Anyone have any idea if the column can be adjusted out any? (red arrow adjustment)
If it can't, anyone know how the brass lip (green arrow) comes out so I can pull off the surround (yellow arrow) to cut 5mm off the front? Or do I just try to cut it while in place?

I'm being told that in the trunk there may be a way to loosen the brackets and get the shaft back the 5 mm I need. Anyone agree?

Hi
Suggest you have a look in the Porsche parts catalogue for your car and identify if adjustment is possible.
See link below from page 362 of 818 onwards.
Cheers

Thanks! From looking at that, the only place I can see play that would help her is if the #1 steering shaft where it couples with the #42 universal shaft can be slid out 5 mm. I've seen joints like these where the bolt goes through a notch in the shaft - meaning there is only one place that fits.

I'll see shortly.
