1987 carrera barn find

Hey guys hoping for some tips or different ideas on how to approach a 3.2 911 I recently got my hands on. The car has been sitting for quite sometime and stored since 2015 with 100,000 miles I was planning on pulling the plugs and adding some oil to each cylinder. Then perform 2 oil changes 1st by Draining the oil while cold fill with oil and run the car until hot then drain oil again clean sump screen and lastly fill with trusty swepco 20w-50. After this procedure is there anything else I should be addressing such as fuel lines, spark wires, distributor cap, oil return lines, etc

Having a hard time to decide if I should tackle things that are easy and preventive or just fix along the way.

Hey Francois, welcome! Only problem with your plan is you seem to be assuming it will start and run.

You need to worry about the condition of the fuel, especially if you live where they use ethanol. Is the tank full? I would start by pulling the fuel level sensor on the top of the tank and looking inside. Is it still clear? Or rusty?

I would not try to start it without fresh fuel, and hope that the rest of the fuel system is not gunked up.

Mark

Before investing in oil changes and what not

First start with a valve adjustment, compression amd leak down test.

For a car that has been sitting for 10+ years, I would have the injectors tested and serviced. Some or all of them are probably stuck.

That would be a waste of time. Any little crud that has built up on the valves and sticking rings need to be thoroughly blown out first. Like after 200 miles of hard driving. Otherwise there is no point.

Why was it parked for 10+ years? Head studs maybe?

No oil screen on that engine. Drain fuel, add back a few gallons and try to fire her up. Diagnose after that. It’s probably fine…tough engines and simple systems to troubleshoot.
