I'm in Brea these two weeks on work. Pomona is Sunday and I am planning to be there early!
What else is don't-miss-it in the area??? |

Go to the Peterson Auto Museum. Its located on the West Side of Los Angeles near Wilshire and Fairfax (the Farmer's Market area). Go to Universal Studios Hollywood and walk the "City Walk" the walk is free parking is about $5.

Ahhhh, Brea. I lived there from when I was 2 yrs old to 6 yrs old. There was a guy in my neighborhood with a grey Jaguar XKE V12 coupe. I saw the four exhaust pipes coming out the back. I saw the frickin dashboard, and the "V-12" badge on the back. I knew then what mattered in life. It was in Brea that I tried to duplicate the motoring experience by hooking our Airedale's leash to the handlebars of my big wheel. All I got was a concussion.
Brea, yep. Enjoy. Seriously, Brea sucks. Get to the beach at all costs. Huntington, Newport, Laguna, whatever. Just get out there.

Pomona in July? I don't think you'll need to go to Venice for some sun! Take some sun block! Maybe I'll see ya there. Midnight blue metalic/chrome/ducktail

on the 20th we're having an autocross at irwindale speedway, 1/2 banked oval. Our track layout uses the infield also so it works out to be close to a 1 mile lap. you're welcome to come and watch, maybe hitch a ride with a few of us and see how the concours weenies AX
![]() irwindale is about 20 minutes from Brea. Besides, how many AXs have you seen on a nascar track? ![]() If you're intersted drop me a note. There's only 30 drivers for this one and we have the track all day, prolly burn up a set of tires with all the track time (rubbing it in). |

I hear about a car gathering every Saturday morning at Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach. From Brea, go south on the 55 to PCH. Turn Left. Drive about 7 miles till you get to a shopping center on the left with a Trader Joes. I hear the cars meet at about 8:00 a.m. If you do a search I think they call it "donutes."The drive down PCH to Laguna Beach is beautiful, short but beautiful. You have no reason to go to Maui if you live in Laguna Beach.
Definately go to the beach. I don't know any reason to live or visit So Cal if you don't go to the beach.

Go to Newport Beach. I did so, some decades ago. I've had many car experiences. All were great, all with fond memories. But until you've body surfed "the wedge"...and then still alive to brag legitimately that you did it? Well, you haven't lived ... but you might not live if you try it, unless you're a good swimmer. If you decide not to try the wedge? Nobody will blame you. But do enjoy the beach bunny scenery. It's the best in the world..."Bay watch", only in reality...

Beach towns and beach, Laguna is no. 1 in my book. And it's not that big, just busy. You can get the scene in a couple of laps up and down PCH. After Pomona, you will be close to the mountains, Mt. Wilson is a nice drive. Could be busy up there, though. Old town Pasadena is close to Pomona and on the way to Mt. Wilson. Excellent restaurants and shops. Lots of poeple milling around in and out of the watering holes, shops, etc. Stay away from anything that says Hollywood unless you have a local show you. Peterson is a good one. China Town, Olvera Street (Mexican atmosphere) and Union Station are are next to one another (within waking distance) in LA. Lots of good food.
Like one of our news anchors used to day, "From the mountains, to the deserts and to the sea...." Yeh, you can see it all in one day if you want to. |

unless you head to the beach early, forget it...too much traffic and parking is a pain. Head out early in the morning and life will be good. If you hang around the sights will slowly fill in.

I've never been to the Pomona swapmeet. Is it worth the drive from San Diego? Is there lots of Porsche stuff there?

You'll be in Brea. If you drove your P-car out, go visit Al Reed in Anaheim and get your Fuchs polished and painted!

thanks for all the info!
this thread is maybe a little OT but this board is great. I've even got information from Pelicans offline! Irwindale sounds good but unfortunately we're outta here on the 18th ![]() everybody keeps saying it's HOT here. we came in and the news was saying oooh heat wave! but you walk outside and feel a gentle breeze with none of the oppressive St. Louis humidity - I think it must be like training in the mountains and competing at sea level. My st. louis sweat provides instant cooling and the air feels like fall - still I plan to be at Pomona early just to be safe! there's so much to do here, and it's relatively close. the roads are well marked and the street signs are lighted. I called my wife and told her to sell my car and send me the money. ![]() thanks again for all the tips - with a little luck I'll be out here again soon |
