Best Way to Paint Gold "Porsche" to Black

I just got my Gold "Porsche" letters and they are of course plastic and I am looking to paint them black. The other emblems on the car are black and wanted to find out the best technique and type of paint to go from gold to black.

thanks for the help,

zac

If plastic? Go to a hobby shop...model plastic cars folks. They'll know the paint that sticks best. Me? I'd start calling wrecked-em yards...try to find a set of metal letters, then go to an anodizing shop, have them made black...

Yep, find someone to trade with, fortunately, or not, there aren't to many "old" 911's in wreckem yards, least outside of Cali

I'm waiting to find a 3.2 Carrera in a pick a part yard so I can have a $150 engine

Best Idea is to lightly sand the gold off and then apply Vinyl Dye.
It looks like a spray can and is sold at Pepboys or any other car shop. It will actually dye the plastic and will not peel off. It will have a smooth finish also like spray paint.

Hope this helps.

Krylon now has a line of paint specifically for plastic..called Fusion...no sanding or primer. http://www.krylon.com/product/op_consumer_product.asp

Home Depot sells a spray plastic primer. Apply it on plastic and shoot whatever over that. Wurth, as suggested above, will give you the most authentic look as a topcoat.

And to be honest, if you just applied very light coats of wurth alone you'd probably be fine.

Gold is the correct color for a 71. The 'PORSCHE' on mine is gold while the '911' and 'Targa' are silver. Black is not correct for 71 if you're going for the original look. -- Curt
