whale tail grill?

I am taking the AC out of my 82 sc and when i took the condenser there is no grill? is this correct or should there be a grill. Pictures would be nice, Thanks Kevin

I am not an expert on Whale Tails, but these in the classifieds have grills. There may be additional for sale ads that could be helpful, or hopefully an expert chimes in.

Tea tray or whale tail? The whale tail doesn't have the screens, only the upper grill and teh regular decklid grill. A tea tray has a screen and the metal louvers. If you don't have any oof them, you can get some expanded or perforated metal and make your own. The louvers OTOH, are quite pricey.

Its a whale tail, but it looks like a grill of some sort bolts in.

Was there a grill available, with out the condenser it looks a little weird.

On my 86 "Carerra tail" (have the M package with front spoiler and tail from factory)I had the screens.

I removed them when I did a complete removal of everything for deep cleaning.

If I remember I had to seperate the tail from the deck lid to access them...

I thought, at the time, I might get better airflow through the engine.


Again, they were there on my 86 and most everyone I have seen through the years, car years and ownership years, has had the screen.
