'78 SC Valve Spring Replacement New Ones Too Small?
I found 2 broken valve springs in my engine when I was doing a valve adjustment. I decided to order all new springs, keepers, and seals. I was replacing them when I found that the new ones are too skinny.
The larger original had an inside diameter of about 24.5 mm and the new ones are about 22.5 mm. The smaller original was about 17.5 and new one about 15.8 The new ones don't fit in the retainer. I ordered the set of 901.105.901.50 right here from Pelican. I see there is also a set with part number 901.105.901.51. Both say they fit my car. The one ending in 50 is a little cheaper and was ready to ship so I ordered it. I replaced a few before I realized they clearly weren't correct. Can anyone help with any info here? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761713644.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761713644.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761713644.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761713644.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761713644.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761713644.jpg |
WTH? Never seen that.

The new valve springs are correct, the original ones removed from your engine expanded in size and that's you keep thinking the new ones won't fit
|
The springs don't sit flush on anything. I cannot see how this is correct. Can anyone with experience verify that they have installed the small ones and it was ok?

i just measured all my extra springs about 14-pairs . Yours is definitively some kinda miss stock..i would return them....

Hi
Could you please add some pics of the packaging that the defective valve springs came in ? May help identify who manufactured them etc. Cheers |

Someone pulled the wrong parts from the bin and sold them to you. It happens. I had a set of aftermarket springs come to me with two incorrect spring bases once. They were like .020" too small. Springs didnt seat correctly. Check everything!

Don’t buy budget valve springs.
|
Mine weren't even budget parts. I guess good vendors make mistakes too.
|
They came in bags with the correct part numbers attached. It wasn't a mistake of sending the wrong parts. I ordered a new OEM set and they arrive today. I will report back with they're sizing.
|
New OEM springs came and are normal size. Buyer beware with anything other than OEM. I blindly trusted Pelican, which was clearly foolish.
