Fixing Crumbling Floor Mat Under Coating Insulation.. stuff
I have searched around and its a bit difficult to pinpoint other threads asking similar question, but what has the community come up with for a decent repair to under-side of floor mats?
In one interesting thread someone painted the backside with flex seal. ![]() The other mats seem good, but the driver side has had a tough life. tia

Your challenge there is the "horse hair" insulation used as a backing; much of yours is missing. I used Flex Seal on the underside of my rear mats, and it worked pretty well (used a few coats). I had to replace my fronts, though...

Used brush on clear flexseal as well with good results but mine had just begun to degrade. Also had similar issue with 43 year old sisal mats and flexseal worked on them too. Unfortunately my boat sunk.😁

When they get like that, I replace them.

Resurrecting old thread -
Mine are not as bad as the OP's, but with the wear in the middle, the mat tends to bunch up under my feet while I'm driving. Will Flexseal just go over all of this, or do I need try and strip the existing rubber off? Is there anything to add to make it stiffer or hold together better? Thanks! ![]()

Its not pretty.... but I laid down strips of Dry Wall mesh tape (I've been patching a lot of holes lately - had a roll laying around) - and put a couple coats of Flex Seal down... added a bit of weight to the mat, but fixed up the parts of rubber that were peeling away... should hold up for a while - lot cheaper than new mats...

I covered with strips of duct tape.
