78' 911sc targa max speaker depth mounting in door panel

So, the speakers I have are insanely shrill in the door panels and bass - somewhat - well non-existent. I know two co-ax's won't be great, but there has to better options than the Polk MM6812's I currently have from previous owner. Running Porsche's PCM rated at 45w x 4, though I only run two channels obviously. I was looking at these below but unsure of the depth of 4.18" or even if I had to buy a ring, would they squeeze in. Running a Rockford Fosgate T400X2ad Power 400 Watt Class-AD 2-Channel Amplifier, so power is non-issue and barely turned on the at the moment to keep them from chirping out. Sidebar - I really don't want to get caught up in components and more holes.

Any feedback much appreciated. Don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Down for Sound doesn’t give me a good feeling on the quality of the speaker, but I have no experience or knowledge of them, so they might be fantastic or trash.

Maybe check Crutchfield as they will have a bunch of choices that are selected to fit your car.

Lots of room in the doors. You can also go to 6.5” speakers without any modification to the sheet metal: there is plenty of room.

Bought a pair of Infinity Reference speakers (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108R6532EM/Infinity-Reference-REF-6532ex.html) - you can go deeper than these + also accept more front depth if you’re using grilles. I wanted mine flush behind the perforated door cards.

Wrote up what I did when I did new Carbone door cards a while back: Installing Carbone RS Door Cards

Silverlock, I somehow missed your post that you linked. I encourage everyone reworking/replacing and/or doing any work on the doors check it out. Thorough and detailed are understatements…hardware sizes and references to sources…just wow. Really appreciate you sharing.

Thanks. Will take a read. I so dislike messing with the map pocket to get to everything. At least they are top mounted, so I won't have mess with the other hardware or panel.

@F1LOCO - nothing to fear about removing the door card other than a bunch of sheet metal screws nothing complex to put back together, maybe have a magnetic tray to keep track of the screws, size differences can be noted with masking tape and a Sharpie. Search Pelican for reference on door card removal.
I recommend removing the door card.
Besides seeing the exact depth you’ll need for speakers, fitting and any wiring will be easier… and you’ll want to inspect all the inner door mechanical workings, clean and lube everything, lots of dirt accumulates at the door bottom and can plug the drain holes. Door interior hand pull has a tiny 50˘ bushing that often wears out, there’s several of these little bushings holding lock linkage in place. If broken they be at the bottom of the door.

Also - Make sure to include speaker baffles to protect your speakers cones from water and replace or keep the protective plastic sheeting in place…mine and the speaker baffles were missing on both sides - over time rain and wash water takes a toll on door cards and speakers as it seeps from the window seals. Be aware.
If you have your original speaker outer grilles, don’t pry the off - they’ll break. The grilles have (3) one way speed nuts holding thin plastic stems in place and can only be removed by twisting off from the inside of door card.
If not using,,,Original equipment is gold - so don’t break or toss them - pack rat everything !!!
Good luck and post your project photos. : )

Thanks for the replies. Ended up getting these Pioneer's. Great range and can actually handle the power of the 200RMS x2 amp. Still co-ax but way better than the shrill Polk's.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSZ65F/Pioneer-TS-Z65F.html

Rockford already replied to my email and said once I set the clipping level, set the amp cross over at 80Hz high pass and I should be good to go.

I've always been happy with everything from Pioneer that I've owned. My current JBLs are also too shrill, and the JBL grilles stick out too far and have sharp edges that bite my knuckles when rolling up/down the window. I hope it's not the Sony head unit.
