Fuel distributor leakinga

My fuel pump seemed to be bad so I replaced with one which was in a box full of parts when I bought the car.
Contact on and indeed I hear zooming noise.
Unfortunatly fuel was pouring out ( a lot)between the 2 halfs of the fuel distributor.
It was the first time I tried to start the car after a long period of all sort of problems.
Could the pump give too much pressure?
Anuway,I'll have to order the rebuilt kit( it's a 006 FD)
Seen a video on you tube and the part of sealing worries me the most.
Will indian head gasket shellac work for this?
Is there enough time before it gets hard ?

Thanks

As much as hate 574, If you trowel it on super super thin with a razor blade, it's worked for me in the past.

You mean the shellac or the 574.? In the video he uses a little brush and the 574 I believe.
Still not sure why it's leaking. On the fuelpump there's no number,it has a rather big inlet(14 mm)

So i decided to open the FD.There were 6 bolts - not torx ,simple flat scree and they were not tight at all.To me it all seemed very clean. Also the o rings on the shaft looked good.
I took some pictures, perhaps the metal gasket is not good anymore? There is no sealar as far as I can see.
Should I order the repair set?Which one (here in Europe) for the 2,7 ?
Or just put it again together and tighten the screws some more?
Don't also know how much lbs they need.

Oh yes, how do I get the six tiny cover plates off on top?
They are that tiny I can't even see if they are screws (phillips, torx?)

Assembly Sequence…….

JJ,

You need to completely disassemble your FD and re-assemble it in proper sequence. You can not install the upper section (not shown in the pic) to the bottom section without compromising any of the six (6) o-rings unless you are lucky. But you can not rely on luck all the time.

The key to success is a leak-free fuel distributor. Getting a uniform flow rates for non-adjustable FD’s is a tedious job that requires perseverance and patience.

FD Disassembly…

Secret about what? And I could see from your picture is that you might have inadvertently committed a blunder in your disassembly. Hope I am mistaken. How did you maintain the springs, spacers, orifice pieces in place when you removed the top section of the FD? Keep us posted.

I watched the you tube video - but it is an adjustable FD-and he just seperated the case and the springs ,etc...just fell out .I did the same, the 2 halves seperated very easy and the springs,washers,...stayed in place.I removed them and put them in a little box.
I can't find a lot of information about the FD , just opened it to see if there was debris, impurities,etc...
What's the blunder I made?

JJ,

There are 6 spacers (ring type) for FD-006 (non-adjustable) that are installed to deliver uniform individual flow rate/s. If you take them out from the FD without identifying each one, how would know where they go back? When you re-assemble the FD, the probability of having 6 uniform individual flow rates is LOW. So to reduce the amount of time to get the flow rates uniform as possible, you need to know the spacers thickness.

For example, use six (6) spacers with identical thickness and measure the flow rates. Next test, add or reduce the individual spacers to get the correct flow rate/s. For the 3rd. test, confirm the individual flow rates. Most of the time, you could get the calibration within acceptable variance after 3 trials. Getting the acceptable uniform flow rates after a 4th test is still very GOOD, unless you have OCD syndrome.

ok ,I understand my blunder.
I did measure the thickness and 5 of them are 1,3 mm and one is 1.2 mm.
Are these spacers in different thickness for sale ?

Any Update?

JJ,

Were you able to assemble everything together and test the fuel distributor? Keep us posted.

It might be an idea to send your FD to someone who does this as a day job. It’s what I did with mine and it made a real difference to how the car runs
