Porsche Crest 997 winter tire options

I live in Boston and I want to be able to drive my 2006 Carrera S 997.1 in the winter. I have stock wheels on the car right now with high performance summer tires. I don't plan to drive in a snow storm but can't be caught with summer tires driving around

235/35/19 Front
295/30/19 Back

I could buy a winter or all season tire for the rims I have. That's not so easy to find. Pirelli sportzero are available from Europe.

My question, I bought a set of rimes and tires with the Pierilli sportzero winter tires on them. They came off a 991

The sizes are a little bigger

235/40/19 Front (1" clearance to fender in front)
295/40/19 Back (1.5" clearance to fender in back)

They fit on my car but the clearance is tight. I have not driven the car with the bigger wheels yet. The rear wheels also extend past the fender line

They look great, but .... I am concerned about rubbing and having an issue

Any thoughts on if these bigger rims are safe to run on my 997.

Here are a few pics as

Those wheels look like they're offset for a C4S (widebody). You could try them but there is a chance they will rub the fender when the suspension compresses over bumps.

Typically you'd want a skinnier setup for winter. 235 front, 265 rear would be ideal.

As for Pirelli Sottozeros, I currently have a set on my Cayman and they're a good tire. Awesome on cold, dry pavement and decent in snow.

yeah, I bought this set used thinking they would after reading online. They seems really tight, not made for this car. I don't think I can get away with using them.

Ideally I can just find winter tires for my stock rims to run in the winter. Not so easy to find.

To be honest, the tire rack has the best options, and real reviews for your car.

No Affiliation, they are local and great!

I can't seem to find anything but summer performance tires for my 19" rims. I was hoping not to buy another set of rims and tires.

Looks like the only choice is buying them from Italy or Germany.

Other option is to get a set of 18" rims but I don't know what size will fit my 997

I have 21" summer tires on my '10 Cayenne GTS and 19" Vredestein Quatrac 5s on '18 Cayenne wheels, they are 3 peak mountain snowflakes for now through April. The AWD helps a lot but the Vredsteins allow the truck to safely travel in any snow in the last few years. Highly recommended.

Tirerack shows the Toyo Proxis Sport A/S+ allseason tires available in your sizes. If you go down a size (225/40R19 X 285/35R19), there are a few surprisingly good all season tires available, which would be great cold weather tires (and OK-in-a-pinch snow tires), e.g. Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s and Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

so you think the Toyo Proxis Sport A/S+ is a good all season tire. I am not planning on driving in any snow storms. I want to have a decent tire if the roads are wet, cold and maybe a little dusting of snow.

Second question, If I go down in size, like you said, will those fit my 19" rims ?

Have used Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 3s on winter wheels for my 328i, great tires, just bought a set of new 4s for this winter. Would be perfect for a 997 assuming roads are plowed.

thanks, checking out tire rarck now and the all season tires. That could be a good option.

I don't think I can go down the the 225/40/19 or 285/35/19. I don't have the clearance under my wheel wells

The new tires I fitted on the car are below and there's not enough clearance
235/40/19 Front (1" clearance to fender in front)
295/40/19 Back (1.5" clearance to fender in back)

I'd hop on Facebook Marketplace and score a spare set of wheels with the right offset. There's lots of options out there for narrow body 997s.

Marketplace is how I ended up with a second set of wheels that don't fit. I know I can sell the ones I just bought.
I am not sure what will fit. Any thoughts on what size 18" tire will fit on a 997 ?

On your 19" wheels? No.

You need to see which widths and offsets fit your 997.

^^^ This ^^^ Gold2323, your problems so far stem from buying rims with the wrong width/offset for your particular narrow body 997. The guide at this link should help you narrow down the wheel width/offsets that will work with your particular 991 https://www.wheel-size.com/size/porsche/911/997-2004-2010/#google_vignette.

Ask for date codes too. Any tire that's over six years old won't perform like a new tire and should factor into the purchase price.

thanks the guide with offsets and tire sizes. that is what I needed. I think I will stick with my 19" stock rims and get an all season tire for the winter. I won't be driving in any snowstorms if I can help it.

appreciate all the input
