starting problems

My 3.2 at times will not start. It does not crank and I have to jumpstart it. Then after turning the engine off, it will not start again. I just installed a brand new battery and it is still having the same problem. Sometimes, it will start by just turning the key. If it does not start, I need to jumpstart it with a portable battery that I keep in the car. Is it the ignition switch? thanks for any replies

Could be the starter. You need to hookup an amp meter to see how much amp the starter is drawing. One battery my not supply enough amp for the starter to crank that is why when you jump the engine with the spare battery the two battery combine gives enough amp for the starter to turn.
