Manual heater to Automatic heater

Anyone upgrade from the manual pull lever heater to the rotary automatic heater control?

How much work is involved and what are the parts required for this conversion other than the rotary control.

I need to replace the cable to the passenger side flapper box and since I will have everything apart I thought I might upgrade to the automatic control.

Thanks for any help

Well, let's see ... You will need at least the following ...

Different washers and friction disks for the bolt that mounts the hand brake lever, which also serves as the center of the heater lever.

A different bolt for the above.

To assemble the control lever/handbrake lever washers and friction disks, you will need exploded views of both assemblies to be able to inventory how many of which widget you already have, and how many of each you will need to do the other assembly. Ain't hard to do, but it is REALLY tedious.

A thermal sensor that mounts just above the rearview mirror, just aft of the windshield, and the wiring that goes to the control box between the seats. Fishing that wire might be your toughest challenge.

A thermal sensor that mounts in a collor on one of the heater boxes, that measures the temperature of the heated air entering the heater box from the heat exchangers. It comes with the wiring attached to run thru the tunnel to the heater control box. This assembly cost $229 about 15 years when I considered replacing it.

Power to the heater control box. That wiring may already be installed in the basic wiring loom, but ...

Mounting holes for the control box screws. Holes in the top of the tunnel for wiring connections to get to the control box.

Good luck!
