Dying on a 90+ F day

It's not bad enough that my a/c doesnt work but now I have HOT air blowing in through the cabin vents.

I have both levers all the way down (closed vents) and it's still blowing in hot air.

So driving on a 90+ deg. day, I'm sweating bullets!

So here's my question:
there is a short hose on the left side of the engine compartment that goes from the left heat exchanger (under the car) up into the heater blower motor.

Can I simply disconnect this hose to stop the hot air flow into the cabin? thanks

(car is stock 83SC)

Best to block off the hose so the air from the fan will continue to circulate around the heads and not flow out an open hose.

Hmm, you say you have the vents closed. Are the heater boxes open?

The way you can tell is with the car on a lift or safely jacked and supported, looking at the heater boxes underneath, the cables should have them all the way open. The opening is shaped like a pie wedge, you should see the flap has moved out of the way.

When the heater levers are down, the cable pushes it all the way open, allowing the heated engine air to vent to the atmosphere under the car. When they close, it goes forward through the rockers with the results you are experiencing.

Perhaps the cables may have slipped or are out of adjustment. Worth a look.

If you are under there, shoot some WD-40 into the heater boxes to lube them up. It will stink for a bit after.

Good luck.
