Le Mans DVD Movie Ques

I am watching my brand spanking new Le Mans DVD...

I eventually want to get the Frech Kiss of Death book to accompany my DVD...

anyone know if they wrecked complete authentic 917's on the movies??? Was the Ferrari crash a real car too?

I heard they bought quite a few 917's for the filming...I am sure the book will answer my ques...just wondering if you guys knew

MJ

I don't know for sure about the wrecks (seems pretty expensive), but yes they used real 917's for the filming.

I think I remember the movie was dedicated to someone who "gave their life" in making the film. Crash related?

Toolman:
you're thinking of the dedication at the end of the movie....David Piper made an "ultimate" ( ?) sacrifice...by losing his leg when he crashed one of the cars. Some words to that affect were used, and one assumes death...thank God it was a bit less than that. !

MJ, play the 917 crash sequence in slow motion. You will see the V8 engine in the car. You will also notice that during this whole crash sequence, the throttle was wide open. Thus, the rear tires never stop spinning.
