Late '80s Turbo seats

Hi all

I'm considering to look for a pair of new OEM turbo leather seats of late '80s.... I'm wondering if simple mechanical version (not power version) were ever made? anyone know?

thanks

I know of some people that took their electric seats and removed the heavy electrical motors. You may be able to do that.

Thanks Grady. Forgot to ask - does a turbo seat have a heater in it or not?

If I remove all the electrical motors, would it be possible to install mechanical levers to the seat, so it can be adjusted conventionally?

I think heat was optional on the seats so they could be.
You might be able to, I'm not sure.

Yep. RS America. Cloth, no-pwr, late80's style sportseats.

Also, there was never actually any such thing as a "turbo seat", they used the same seats as any other 911.

Is that of 911, not 964? If possible, got a photo of such a seat?

Speeder,
I mentioned 'turbo' because it had deeper side bolsters. 3.2 Carrera had shallower ones.

thanks

Here are some cloth RS Americs seats for sale on Ebay (no affiliation with with seller)...it looks like there are still some electric controls for seat bottom tilt, but fore and aft adjustments look to be manual

Deep side bolsters=Sport seats....not so deep side bolsters are standard seats. Turbos and non-Turbos can come either way....

I just did a quick search and found an RS America website.

Was RS America the only model that had manual fore-and-aft slide and manual backrest adjustment?
Not even European RS?

Did all 3.2 and turbo cars come with fully electric seats? When I say fully, I mean including fore and aft slide and backrest.

Are all the installation bolt locations of the RS America seat the same as a 1972 911? i.e straight bolt-on?

thanks again

'89 speedster, and '87-'89 Clubsport had all manual sportseats. VERY rare.

I have a set of leather sport seats, with the 911 mounting setup, 911 leather fabric, but with deep bolsters and Recaro logos.

What do I have? Anyone want 'em? They need re-covering.

Most "power" seats from the mid 80's that I've seen were power up/down but manual fwd/aft. Here's my sport seat from a 85 930. It's power up/down but manual fwd/aft.

Thanks Don!

Is the backrest manual or power?

Would it be possible to remove the power up/down, and make it fixed?

The backrest on the seat pictured is manual, you can see the lever for it, (there are 2 levers on front of seat). Are those the bolsters which you are refering to as "turbo seat/deeper bolsters"? Those are normal sport seats, optional on all 911s, including turbos. Not everyone liked sport seats, especially fat people.

Also, (and don't hold me to this 'cause it's been a while), but as I remember, ALL sport seats were manual fore/aft and recline, like the one pictured, FULL POWER was only available w/ standard seats, (non-sport seats).

My standard seats for my 85 911 are power up and down ( separately for front and back of seat bottom), power recline, and manual fore-aft. I think manual fore-aft was pretty typical in that you get the benefit of a fast change when changing drivers...but revert to "power" for all else.

hey"Don"...is that a Navy Blue sport seat? Would look lovely in my car with Navy interior . Are you selling?

Blue72,
Speeder is correct. The backrest is manual. I don't know if it would be possible to remove the power. I would guess it would be a pain not worth the trouble. Why do you want to remove the power? If you don't want power seats, I think you would be better off to find early 80's sport seats that are non power already.

Will,
Yes, it's navy blue. Haven't thought about selling but I guess everything is for sale. However, I only have the passenger seat. When I had it in the car, I used it the drivers side and liked the power buttons on the right side better because there was more room without the door pocket being in the way.
It's a great office chair as well.

Don is right, removing the power motors may be possible but more PITA. Have you considered aftermarket seats? Or do you want the OEM Porsche seat?

I'm more interested in OEM. Did early '80s sport seats have deep bolsters (I'm thin ) like the later ones? Got a photo?

Just asking, are either still available NOS (new old stock) from a mains dealer?

thanks

The early '80s sport seats had deep bolsters, not quite as deep as the ones pictured, but I like the early ones better from an aesthetic standpoint. (To each their own, obviously).

I would not be a bit surprised if these old seats are available somewhere NOS, but they would be VERY expensive, (thousands of $$?), unless some dealer is stuck w/ a set and wants them gone. Not likely w/ the room that they would take up at dealer, but anything is possible. Much better solution is to find them used, shouldn't take forever to locate. Keep an eye on the various Porsche board classifieds and ebay. Good luck!
