Engine drop, not tranny, does shift coupler need disconnnect? Early 911
Two questions:
1. If dropping only the engine, does the shift coupler need disconnecting ? (1969 911 E) Thanks. (Read previous threads, but still concerned about oil line disconnecting also, would be nice to have a video VCR on a complete drop) |
In theory if you kept the transmission perfectly stable, you could leave the linkage attached. But I'd sure disconnect it to be safe. Big money if it bends.

I would do it no other way. We are talking about four screws to remove a plate and then another small screw to disconnect the linkage. You don't even have to crawl under the car. Simple, easy insurance against a big bill.

OK. Does the hex screw come all the way out, and one then slides the rod out, or does the rod slide out automatically when this screw is just loosened?

It's so easy to remove the whole thing at once (engine and tranny) you ought to just remove the whole thing as a unit and not risk forgetting to undo something.

OK. Thanks. The selector rod, should it be marked, so it's original position can be restored upon installation?
And lastly, one naive question, where exactly will the rod end up after disconnecting the hex screw...out of the coupler and out the rear seat? |
