Cool Carrera GT at Goodwood FOS

For the UK pelicans - who went to the Goodwood festival of speed? And saw the Carrera GT driven up the hill? What a nice sound, although tame after all of the race cars. I actually thought it looked good, and compared quite well to the enzos, pagani, noble and other stuff that followed it up.

For those of you stateside, this is our first opportunity to get to see the Carrera GT, Goodwood is a big car event, centred around driving very fast cars (mostly of historic interest) up a very narrow hill deep in the english countryside.

What a great day!

H.

What a day... heh ??
I was drooling all day long.
Seeing the Carrera GT in the paddock and meeting Walter Rohl was a highlight for me... and seeing him powersliding the CGT through the second bend onto the straight. He was really giving it some compared to some of the Enzo, Lambo Gallardo (what a beautiful car) and other exotica drivers.

The 1200bhp yellow 917-3 looked a bit gawky racing up the narrow hillclimb, but the Group B rally cars of the early 80's like the Audi Quattro, Renault 5 and Lancia Delta Intagrale were ripping up the track sideways !!! They were quick... as were the F1 cars !!!

Did you see the new Koenigseg CC? Howabout the BMW CSL... now that would do as a nice daily driver !! I'll try to post some pics when I get them developed.

It was a really great day - and the Carrera did look and sound awesome - but didn't perhaps look quite as mean as the GT1 parked next to it. Still I wouldn't say no. Here's a few shots - hopefully I'll get the others up soon.

An event well worth going to Chris, even all the way from Scotland !!!
The amazing thing is that as well as just getting to see the cars and have a proper look around (and sometimes sit), and take loads of great pictures, you get to see/hear all these cars that spend most of their lives sitting in private collections all burning some rubber !!!

It truelly was so much better than I thought it would be, I walked right up the hill in the afternoon and was no more than 10 foot and one hay bale from wheel spinning F1 cars, it was well worth the sun stroke.
Did any one else try the porsche cafe? £20 for two lots of bacon and eggs and a coffee LOL, was nice though.

I did see the CGT static but missed it both times on its runs up the hill

The Carrera GT is, to me, very cool, but you can't beat those three 917's for coolness. Modern day race cars are amazing, but the old race cars, well, I'm just speechless...

No wonder Porsche is the most profitable car manufacturer in the world
I made the most of the free orange squash and biscuits in the Porsche trade stand though

Ah man, you guys are killing me. It's been 3 years since I came over for the FOS and the memories are still vivid in my mind. This year I listened in on the live radio broadcast and was just dying listening to the sounds and interviews.

Amongst my favorite clips was the interview with Derek Bell who said back in the day the factory honchos wouldn't let him drive the 1000 hp 917/30 and instead relegated him to the 650 hp version because they didn't trust him like they did Mark Donohue. Well, he was saying that it took 30+ years but now they do let him drive the beast and he can't imagine how Donohue was able to drive it like he did.

Thanks for the pictures and glad to hear you had a great time. I'm looking forward to my return trip one year soon.

Awesome event. Recommended to anyone who can get over here to see it. You'll see cars here that you would never see anywhere else in the World.

Here are some more CGT pics..

It sounded fantastic. On one run Walter Rohrl stopped in front of where we were standing and nailed the throttled, keeping it on the rev limiter as he disappeared up the hill in a cloud of tyre smoke!!
