85 carrera cab - There is a switch under the AC controls on the console with a picture of a key on it. I have been told this is for electric locks. When I push the button the icon lights but nothing happens. Does anyone know the fuse number for the locks or am I going in the wrong direction. Electric locks seem kind of strange on a car thats only four feet wide.

Yeah - you've got the function right, but I can't tell you the fuse number off hand. But if it's lighting up - the fuse is probably not the problem.
If you manually lock either door the light should go on as well... I think the central locking thing is more for market competitive purposes rather than functional need. Having that stupid light glowing (particularly at night) is more of a distraction for me than the minor convenience of "power locks". |

It's nice when you hook it up to an alarm and you can unlock the doors as you approach the car.
It sounds like maybe the locks themselves aren't functioning because I believe the light coming on is an indication that the locking module and switch believes locking is working correctly. From what I understand the major parts of the system are the module (behind the dash on the left near the ant amplifier), the switch in the center console, the locking mechanisms, and some microswitches at each outside door lock.

An update on the light coming on. The light never stays on. It only lights while pushing the button.

Could be one of the microswitches in the doors are bad. It's my understanding that they are triggered when you use the key to tell the car to unlock the doors. If one is bad or badly adjusted then it may always think the lock is being turned not allowing the doors to lock because of a constant unlock signal. It could also be something else. Just my thoughts, I'm no expert.

I think it is also quite common for the vertical linkage from the actuators to become stuck/bound.

I expierinced this problem as well. When you put your key in the ignition and start it, does it automatically lock the doors? If so, there might be something wrong with the central locking button. When I had to replace one of my door handles, I had to mess with the wiring and door plungers in the locks to make them work again. I also have an aftermarket alarm that unlocks the doors too.
I did find it interesting though that the plungers had 964 part numbers on them. sorry I cannot be of more help. The light is really annoying though. Bill |
