Rusty 911 s for sale in Raleigh NC
FYI,
There is an 1966 911, the add says S for sale in Raleigh NC, it has a lot of rust, and then some... The engine is out, looks like it could be the original engine, it has Solex cards. Trans is out. it has a sunroof, Fuchs rims. It looks like it has been sitting outside for a while.. Did I mention it has a lot of rust, both under and surface rust. It all appears to be there just in boxes. It is not mine, and I do not know the person selling it. It is in the newspaper today. PORSCHE 911S '66, 2.4L, complete, needs TLC. $5000. 919-787-5598 From The N&O, The Smithfield Herald. If someone can look up the numbers here they are. Might be worth it for a parts car, for a lot less then they are asking now. Bruce Engine # 903020 Chass. 30288 |

Thanks for the tip Bruce. I love these "found in a barn" opportunities.
You correctly pick up that there is no such animal as an "S" in 66. 2.4 did not appear until 1972. Might be worth a call just to find out what is ACTUALLY there. Problem is that the seller thinks it's a pot of gold vs. a pile of iron oxide.

John,
I checked it out this morning.. Those are the numbers off of it. It has a 2.4 badge on the rear grill, That is why they think it is a 2.4, the engine looks like an earlier engine.. I talked to the wife, she did not know much about it, it is there son's car, and has been apart and sitting outside for a while. It does need a lot of work... if it is even worth it. I am not sure when the 911S was first made, all my books are at home, I have seen some web sites mention they started in 1966. Thanks Bruce |

I'm almost 100% sure the S cars never had Solex carbs...
They had special 40IDA3S carbs... |

John, I made the same claim here: SWB S for $7500 ?
and after a little snooping, it appears that there were S's in 66. Doug 75 911S |

I stand corrected.
From the Porsche Web Site: 1966: The Porsche Targa complete with roll-bar enters the range in autumn as the new open-air model. The 911 S is introduced with an even more powerful engine (160bhp/118 kW). By the end of the year the 912 is out-selling the 911.

If they made S cars they would be later cars, all 65 and(early)66 had solex carbs stock, then they changed to webers on the later ones
