Help Determining Engine Noise
 

I was hoping that you guys could help me diagnose the noise in my motor. The motor is a 2.7 with good heads studs/case and has been upgrade with Carrera tensioners.
The motor fires up and runs well but has fairly loud tick that I cannot pinpoint(it does not sound like rod rap or anything like that). The noise is in the front left part of the engine. The valves are all correctly adjusted.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be or had a similar issue?

Here's a suggestion to help pinpoint engine noise. Take a long screwdriver and place the tip against the engine, handle to ear. Move it around and listen to locate noise source. This could be a soft tensioner from your description.

Thanks for the info. I had thought about the chain tensioner potentially being bad.

Well, here's the latest update now that I'm back from vacation with the wife and kids.
I did a compression test and all the cylinders were about 150 with the exception of #2 which was 0!!!!
Last night I did a leakdown test and everything was between 10 and 18%.
Time to pull the motor out:(

I'd re-do the compression test as you may just have some carbon under a valve or the valve in # 2 adjusted wrong. I don't think you can get 0 compression and only have a leakdown between 10 to 18% in that cylinder.

Sorry, I mis-posted. I did also have 100% leakdown in cylinder 2 as well.

Still, be conservative. Do the Techron thing or something. I'm not an accomplished 6-cyl mechanic, but I have hopes that the problem is temporary. Also, please be careful using a screwdriver to listen. This puts your head too close to the engine while running. They sell a cheap stethescope for this.

IIRC, you put the Techron right in the intake port through the injector hole. Right or wrong guys?
