Need Help...locking mechanism screwed up
Help just moved and need diagram of door lock mechanism...I can't find my Bently!
I was moving, left the car in the billeting parking lot (military base) and left for CO (R&R) for a few days. The day after I arrive, my son calls and says the Sky Cops found him (he's 18, didn't come with us) and said the 4-ways were on, car was locked, he should come turn them off...I didn't leave him a key...we're 500 miles away! Cops tried a slim jim...didn't work....called a lock smith...didn't work....cops tried slim jims more...well, 3 hours later, everyone gave up. My son removed the bulbs, and I cut the trip short. I apparently had left a door open, someone (as a joke) turned on the 4 ways and locked the door. Now 2 problems: First, the locking mechanism and door release on the inside don't work now (obviously the sky cops bent it up), second, the turnsignals now don't work (although 4 ways do). Since I just moved, everything is lost...the packers were unkind and mixed everything up...since this is my daily driver, I'm getting tired of opening the door by rolling down the window. Does anyone have a diagram of the locking mechansim/opening mechanism inside the door? 83 SC. thanks in advance! |
Certainly another case in point that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Your door problems from the slim jim attack is probably due to either bent or pulled out control rods. The rods and their functionality are pretty easy to figure out so I would recommend that you just take off the door panel and either reconnect or straighten out the appropriate control rods. The worse that you may find is that they have broken clips that you will need to replace. On the bulb issue just make sure the right bulbs are in the right place and that the two pole bulbs are not plugged in the wrong orientation. |
