Angry Going into Porsche withdrawal

Two weeks ago (shortly after I got my 77 911S) my car was vandalized: driver's mirror ripped off (but not stolen), antenna broken and wipers bust.

Luckily my insurance covers all but the $300 deduction... plus I had a wide choice of body shops. I ended up choosing one of the pricier shops in the city... they do a lot of hi-end work/restorations.

Anyway.., get my car to them first thing last Monday morning, and now it looks like I won't get my car back until Saturday morning. Sure, they had to do some (minor) bodywork to the driver's door where the mirror attaches... and yes, they have to take the door apart. Am I out of line here or what... but 5-6 days for a friggin mirror remounting (they initially said 2 days)? They were very polite when I spoke to them, but they said something like:

"It's a Porsche" [tell me something I don't know!]

"The wiring for the heated electric mirror was ripped out when the mirror came off" [yep... that's what happens when electric powered pieces get torn off a car].

"Time consuming to put back" [ OK, how do they do with 90% of the other car mirrors out there, which I'm sure get damaged in many accidents/claims?]

Thanks for letting me vent

-MAS

Your car is known as a fill in job. When the shop is not busy they fill in the time by working on your car.

Hey - while they have the door panel off be sure to grease that regulator, clean the bottom and check the drain holes, and liberally grease the door stop strap.

See if they'll let you work on the car while it's on the premises. Donuts and cold beer (AM and PM) might help.

Hang in there,
John

They get paid by the hour, so it wouldn't look good if they estimated 18 hours labor and finished the car in 1 day

Damn, I feel guilty.

My cab has been just sitting in the garage for the better part of two weeks.

Maybe I should start renting it out to offset some of the service costs!

Grrrrr

Just got my car back, and the passenger-side door will not lock. It seems when they had that door apart, but they didn't re-assemble it right. Just took it back to the auto body shop, now I won't have the 911 back until Monday... as there are no shop guys around on a Saturday.

Unfortunately, I live in an appartment, so I have to be able to lock the doors.
