Shift Coupler-Loose Hex Screw

What about the set-screw?
Is there suppose to be a question\comment here?

Seems when I went to "post", the system hung up and them timed out, so only the Header Text came through on the BB.

Regardless, have a '86 930. Three months ago, could not get the transmission into reverse. Pulled the cover behind the seats and found the hex screw backed out of the coupler. Relocated reverse and tightened down the hex screw. Within a week, it backed out again, only this time I used "Blue Locktight" on the treads. That program lasted two months and once again has backed out. Any thoughts as to why ? Maybe I should just get an entire new coupler.

Sounds like the threads in the coupler might be worn from someone over tightening the hex screw. You can always go with Red loctite, but you will have to heat the coupler up if you ever want to get the screw out later.

I agree with Kurt...the threads must be sus.

I bought new bolts from the dealer six months ago and no problems with them backing out.

Cheers
Mark

Other than a new coupler (with bad threads I'm not sure I'd trust even red Locktite to hold indefinately), the only solution I can think of is to re-tap the coupler one size over and use that (larger) size setscrew.
