Originallity?

Hello,

My latest project has been getting my seats back together. I'll post some pictures maybe next week, but is it ok if I used spray paint on them, particularly black rustoleum? The bottom was rusted so I sanded it and painted it black. It looks great, but how would that look to a judge at a show? I know seats can always be replaced, but I still don't know if I should fix it up alittle and sell, or spend more than it's worth and keep. Right now I want more of an original show car vs. race car.

I also have the seat rails out, and they are covered with oxide/dirt/grease. I tried gum cutter carb cleaner on them and that only took off the grease. I also tried sand paper, but that didn't take off everything. Spraying it silver would definetly be the easy route, but like I said, how would a show judge see this?

I also painted the front gas tank, floorpan area with black undercoat. The reason I used black undercoat is because that's what was there before, so I thought it was original. I'm beggining to think this was a mistake because I see many Porsches with body colored gastank supports/floorpans, and now it's sticky tar. (ugh)

I'm also replacing the interior floorpans with brand new ones from restoration-design.com (I highly recommend). If I'm replacing/painting all this, should I just stop trying to make this a show car? Should I sell her, think of it as a learning experience and search for that "perfect" concours early 911?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but this will help me decide what to do because now I'm clueless. Should I spend the extra dollar and buy new german carpet to make it original (if I can even use the word "original" here), or should I get the cheaper domestic stuff if I decide to sell? Should I repray it Irish green, (original color) or will that not matter to a judge because any repray even in the original color is no good. If that's the case, I would love to paint it Polo Red.

I have the book "Original Porsche 911", and if you look at page 21 you see the floorpan is black, but it doesn't look like undercoat. On page 21, the floorpan color does not match the body color which looks blue/green. If you look at page 21, the floorpan is red, matching the body color. In both pictures the fueltank is gray, and mine is covered in undercoat .

Anyway most important right now is what should I do with those seat rails? Should I spray them silver, and if so what would you recommend color/brand?

Thank you

my car is a 69T targa
