How does one examine a used clutch disc?
Nothing in the search on this:
Upon examination of my used clutch disc, what signs of wear would I look for? (Clutch has been working fine. Just checking with the engine out) Thanks

Look for oil on the friction material (bad) and check the thickness against the minimum wear spec in the spec book.

No oil on the friction material, a little on the springs and at the center hole. Do not know the min. specs.

The surface should be smooth(no ridges), thick(1/8inth? over tops of rivets if not bonded?) and a little dull-colored. Flywheel should be the same.
Patches of blued metal on the flywheel is from chattering(slipping from oil, weak clutch cover springs, and with heavy feet). If there is any oil at all it's probably a good time to change the rear main seal (search Early_S_Man's recommendations for the best 3M product) and lube the pilot bearing. Remember to get the flywheel cut (check before and after thickness) with a new clutch and be easy with it for a few thou |
