My AC is....too cold!!!!!!

I know, it's hard to believe but the AC blows wicked cold. My wife keeps the window open. The problem is the knob to the left of the AC fan that should regulate the temp. does nothing. Before I start taking things apart, can anyone give me some advice as how this works and what may be wrong? Also the fan only works on the two highest settings. Again any advice would be welcome. I'd rather do it myself.

This is a joke right? If it isn't then don't be stupid enough to mess with it. Leave it alone and tell the wife to put a coat on. Porsches have one of the worst A/C systems and they are impossible to get really cold without investing a ton of $$$.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Cold a/c in a 911 is like a gift from heaven.

No, no joke. I know everyone complains about the AC systems in their cars but mine works great. I bought the car from a friend and he charged it before passing it over to me. Only time the air quit was when the belt broke. If you think trying to fix it may mess up a good thing I'll leave well enough alone. I just like things to work.

Keep a jacket in the back seat for your wife. Enjoy the cold air while you can!

It will fix itself. Six months from now all your R-12 will have leaked out and your problem will be solved. Of course, it'll be 15 degrees outsided by then.

Thanks for being so optomistic Mike. It's been holding on for about two years now. I just run it in the winter every now and then to keep the seals in good shape. Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not but I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing.

The knob on the left is the temperature sensor switch. Depending on the adjustment determines when the compressor clutch is engaged or disengagd. The switch has a long wire tube that goes into the smugglers box and into the cooling coils. The wire tube is the sensor for the bimetal strip in the switch housing. If the switch is broken then in theory the cooling coils could freeze up and cause damage to the AC compressor. This is only theory because no one on this board has AC that cold in there car. The fan switch selects three different wire wound resistors to vary the speed of the cooling fan. The three resistors block is located behind the passenger side wooden footwell panel. The resistor block is mounted into a hole going into the smugglers box/ cooling coil. This is also the return side of the air flow to the cooling coils. If your fan does not work in one setting then that wire wound resistor is open.

I will pretend that this thread is not here or some kind of cruel joke to those in Florida with substandard AC systems at best. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. You tell her that you won the lottery with your AC system and that if she wants to get in your winning ticket to bring a sweater or a windbreaker. If not, SELL THE CAR to somebody in a Southern state and advertise it as I AM SELLING THIS CAR BECAUSE THE AC IS TOO COLD, it will sell I promise you.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul!

I was thinking the same thing, but I can tell you that NYC gets up to 100+deg. w/ 90%+ humidity and smells like last week's tuna salad, so how much cooler can Connecticut be??
