My Brain Is Hot
My 914-6 has been upgraded to the 1984 Carerra 3.2 engine. The Motronic FI brain is installed in my back trunk.
I checked the 3.2 motronic brain yesterday after driving and it was very hot to the touch. I could not touch it more than a few seconds. It would burn me if I touched it too long. The trunk was equally hot. Should I be concerned that my brain is getting too hot in the trunk or is that sort of heat within tollerances for the unit? If I should be concerned, how concerned should I be? Douglas |

I would be concerned... electronics don't usually do to well when they are heated up... especially hot to the touch.
Good luck.

The injector drivers and other electronics in the box will generate some heat so it will feel hot or warm depending on what your perception of heat is.
FYI, I can hold hot spark plugs fresh from a running motor in my bare fingers so my perception of what hot is might be different than most peoples. Keep in mind that most solid state eletronics can easily withstand temps in the mid to high 100s so if the car is running OK and you have the right injectors and such I would not sweat it. |
