Carrera 3.2 - faulty indicators 1 side only.

The front and drivers ( right hand side as car is UK ) indicators ( turn signals ) don't work.

Have checked bulbs and fuses.

Is there a relay that controls these that coudl be faulty?

or more likely a short circuit do to alarm wiring etc. ( these 2 indicator have not worked since I bought the car.

Any suggestions of where to look for a fault.

If I buy a cheap volt/amp meter - how do I test for power at the light itself?

Thanks:)

The '86 US cars have a strange diode that controls the driver's side indicators. It is located under the dash, in a little white plastic holder, near the ignition switch. No one seems to know WHY it is there, it just is. When the diode blows, the indicators on that side blow.

If you do a search on this site using 86 and diode, you should find some info.

I wonder if maybe your UK 85 has the same thing.

I have the same problem and was wondering if anyone has removed the diode? I talked to a mechanic about this and he said tht he has hooked up the wires without a diode and everything worked. Do i need to spend the $20 for a new one?

When I had this problem 2 years ago I just removed the diode and connected the two wires together. No problem and I have felt the wires a couple of times to see if they get hot and they do not.

Thanks Kurt. No sense in spending money on pats I don't need.

When I painted my car I had the same thing happen, but I had reversed two wires. The running lights would work but the drivers side blinkers wouldn't. Took me a while to figure it out after tracing lines, new bulbs & cleaning blinker/ headlight stalk.

This'll sound stupid but believe it or not when I was fiddling with the engine lid lamp in my '86 I shorted it out somehow and the driver's side running lights and signals quit working. Corrected the wiring and all was back to normal. Turns out the engine lid lamp is part of the same circuit.

Check it out.
