Beware the infamous pulled Head studs. The Bruce Anderson guy, aka Porsche Guru, recommends against purchasing any 2.7 liter car, as they will almost always need rebuilds at or before 75,000.
Has this car been rebuilt? Does it have the tensioner upgrade? Do a search here on the forum for the thread about "how many miles". Someone here compiled a little chart and by far, the 2.7s were the worst in terms of reliability and needing rebuilds. Not to scare you, just to be aware of. It really is a great looking car, physically in great shape. |

Head studs can be fixed. After all, this car has OEM 8-track! Too bad I tossed all my tapes......
My son is now old enough to drive - I can just picture the phone call in a few years - >> "Hey dad, just bought this cool old porsche, and can't get my cds to fit in the stereo......."

I love the look of that car, love the color (would rather have a black interior, though).
I remember a very similar looking car for sale here locally a few years ago. I wonder if it is the same one. |

Pretty nice looking car. But, as you can see by my auto signiture, I'm partial to the look! Although, I don't care for the fog lamps and I don't think they offered a center consoul in 74 (if you're looking for the OEM look). But, I have one, too. I put it in myself. Don't let Sonic scare you away too much, but he has a point. I have a 77 case and Carrer Chain Tensioners, so there's no worries. Definatley something to consider, though. With 8 days left, I bet it will be around $17-20K?

ultra cool car!
if I had the money, I'd jump on it in a second and drop my 2.7RS spec motor in it what a great color, and I actually like the non-black interior as it breaks up the monotony for anyone wanting a car that comes fairly light from the factory, this is it; my best friend had a stock 74 Carrera w/o AC and it weighed in somewhere in the high 2200's... for real ![]() ![]()

That car is YOU Pete. I like it better than the red one, although a black interior would have been nicer.
Hope you have some 8-tracks left. Don't even think about removing the orig. radio and installing one of your megawatt systems. It's all part of the period charm. Good advice on pulled studs and updated tensioners.

And to think I tossed that old ELO 8 track tape when I sold my 1977 Lotus Esprit! back in 1980

If you are really looking for a perfect 74 carrera go and look this one over...buy it it looks nice. I think the color truly represents early 70s porsche. I like the fact that it has original paint still after 30 years.

Yes, this car, with original paint, CA blue tag, ducktail, etc. should bring top dollar. Drop a 3.2 in there, and Bob's your uncle - you'd have the coolest car in town! ;-)

It doesn't have the original duck tail. The current tail is aftermarket. Nice looking car though.

carreric, How can you identify this as a f/g ducktail and not a factory installed unit?

I agree, how can you tell if it is an aftermarket tail from the pictures? The shot with the engine cover open does't show the tail very well.

I spoke to the seller. The original tail was stolen.
The head stud problem is also something to consider. My 75 Carrera has 80K and I have the motor out being compltetely redone. Very expensive to do it right! Also I understand that in late 1974 the Carreras were fitted with whale tails. ES

I thought that in 1974, the Carreras had the 3.0 aluminum motor???

Wow, stolen tail. That is a bummer. I was going to try to give him a call myself. The 3.0 came out in 78 in the SC. Whale tale arrived on the 75 Carrera as well as the larger rear bumper guards.
