Clutch needs Replacement, while I'm in there...
Just looking for some advice, the news from the shop cam back, not good. I need a new clutch. I'm looking for suggestions as to anything else I should take care of while The mechanic is in there.
My car is an 81Sc euro with no mods. Thanks for the suggestions. Hook |
Welcome.
Do a search. While In There Should give you hours of reading. But basically. All the oil gaskets that are hard to get to, on the back/bottom of the engine. I did everything on mine. Switched to Mobil One at the same time. Its dry as a bone. Good Luck |
Hook,
Since your engine is coming out, there are a few things that are tough/impossible to replace otherwise. I'd replace on the engine: idiot oil light sender, breather gasket, engine thermostat o-ring, breather hose if it's at all suspect, and the cis boots if they're squishy or bulging. Oh yeah, definitely replace the rear main seal behind the flywheel. On the transmission, in addition to the main clutch components, I'd replace, or at least check the clutch fork and replace the pilot bearing. These two items are not part of most clutch "kits," and might get overlooked. Jess |
Thanks for the advice. I'm making a list and will search "while I'm in there" as well.
It's disappointing to have this happen, however, I have a strange feeling of excitement in that I'll really know what has been done maintainence wise. I bought the car a year ago and it has been fantastic, however, the maintainence history is thin. PPI came back great butnit much for records. Appreciate the advice. Hook |
Well the word is in. Broken clutch fork, also needs new bearing. I'm going to have a new Sachs lightweight plate and new flywheel.
I could try and go awile longer on the clutch plate and flywheel but they're showing much wear and I might as well just get it done. Doing the hoses and seals as well. Thanks for the advice. |
