Quick question about headlights....
I want upgrade the Headlight Bulbs. I have an H4 system.
If I order the H4 55/100 Watt Replacement Bulb or the H4 80/100 Watt Replacement Bulb, I will need the High Power Headlamp Relay right? Can some one clear this up for me. Thanks

I recently did the search on the same topic and came to the conclusion that if you use a higher wattage bulb, use relays. Even with the stock system, you are better off using relays as they make things easier on the car. I just ordered relays from Mark Sucros and for the price they are very well put together.

I put the 80W/100W bulbs in my H4's. When I did, I put TWO relays in. One for the LOWBEAM and one for the HIGHBEAM. I've never had any issues with either.

Relays. No-brainer.

I think the relay kit (two separate relays for high and low beams) Marcus provides is sufficient for up to 100 watts (someone correct me if that's wrong), but the lamp-holder may not be. There are several stories on this board (and Rennlist) of these lamp-holders "slagging down" if used with high watt lamps, heavier duty lamp-holders are available, try this link for the lamp-holders and additional information on lighting up-grades. . Your wiring from the relays to the lamps will also have to be up-graded, it's much too small for 100 watts, be sure to up-grade the grounding (earthing) side of the lamps also. Be sure to fuse these circuits approriately.

All,
A bit late on this thread, but I have had a few questions via email lately, so here are my $0.02. The comments about the headlight sockets melting sound valid. I have been running 55/100s for 15 years w/o problems, but I do normally use only the lows. The relay kit I sell is good for 130W highs and has been using 40A relays for quite a while. The other comments about upgrading the factory wiring are good too... I think that I will add a note to the directions about making sure that the factory wiring/sockets are in good condition. Thanks, Marcus http://members.rennlist.com/msucro1/relaykit.htm |

One of my cars had the H1s set so both high and low would come on at high. I didn't like as it puts light up close when you want your attention focused far down the road.

I always thought it was: "Wrapped up like a douche in the middle of the night".. Perhaps a call girl could clarify things here?
