clunk, clunk, clunk and reminder
Beutiful day here in NY, roads nice and empty, half way to work and WTF is that noise and why is it coming from my car!
Sounded like a wheel was loose, bring the car down from ludicrous speed and find a safe place to pull over. Get lug wrench and check all 4 and they are tight, WTF Get back in and drive and it's still there, coming from the rear, sounds like passenger side. Now I recently put in new shocks so I'm thinking something came loose. Jeez I hope it's not the top, sounds like the top, please don't let it be the top, cause we all know what fun that is to get to. Pull into my spot at the office, bounce the car, yes, definately related to the suspension, crawl under and grab the shock, YES, it's loose on the bottom, throw a vice grip on and tighten as much as possible, should get me home tonight to a proper set of tools. So here's the reminder, double check your torque and put some nail polish on those bolts as a quick visual indicator. Oddly enough I remembered to mark the fronts but not the back. Now for the cruise home. Scott |
Yea, I thought it was interesting (during the last Tribute to Le Mans) that a Pitt marshal asked us who was the last person to put the wheels on the car? Then asked that person, did you torque them down. The answer was a weak "yes" (not very convincing) so he made us run out and check while the car and driver were waiting to start the race.
Better safe than sorry. At least you didn't damage anything. |
