72 with a 993 engine

Saw an ad for a 72 911 with a 993 engine in Wellesley MA. Is the owner a member here?

Don't know the answer.

However, would you mind sharing the specs and asking price? I am building one ('72 with '95 993 engine)

Would like to see that ad if you aren't already checking it out. I am trying to find a '72 or '73 coupe (or possibly a cheap '74 US Carrera to backdate, keeping the factory tail and flares, of course) and going with a newer motor. I wouldn't mind buying someone's project...

I'm leaving out the phone number and email as I might be interested. If I'm not (based on the fact that I was really looking for a 993), I'm in the same town and would be glad to assist a long distance buyer.

72 PORSCHE 911 TARGA WIDE BODY. Minerva blue w/blk int. Fuchs, 3.6L 993 (911) Carrera twin-plug eng w/straight exh & dual tips. 300+hp. Prof done. 915 trans, brand new clutch, Carrera frt oil cooler w/toggle switch fan. Body is 1 of 1st experimental galv cars from Germany (rust-free underneath), prior to 1976. Great fun but just too fast for my nds. Driven half a dozen times in past yr. Sorry, no test pilots. $13,900; More photos avail by e-mail.

$13,900....it's tough to get a 3.6 and install it for that, so this could be a good buy.

At that price no it's no wonder you don't want to pass the telephone number around. Something must be wrong with it though. Who would go to the trouble and expense to install a 993 engine and let it go for such a good price?

According to the Red Book, undercoating started with the 1970 model.

Heck, if it's too fast for his needs, I'll gladly trade his 3.6 for the 3.2 out of my car. Would solve a problem for both of us! I won't even ask him to throw in any money!

Sounds a good price.

Hmmmm? ....... 'no test pilots'???? Give me a P, give me a P, give me an I..... and that spells PPI!!! I would have a minimum of 3 PPI's if I were to buy it.

Good luck with the car. I have months to go before I get my first taste of a 3.6!!!

I'm 99% sure galvanising started in 76. Undercoating is different, I think.

I agree. Galvanising the entire car DID start in '76. Undercoating DID start in 1970. Is it the same, just on part of the car vs. the whole thing, or something different? I think it is something different.

Too late - car was sold. Bummer. If anyone wants to bug the owner with specifics for their own projects, PM me and I'll send you his email. The ad was listed on a paid site (thewantad.com) and I'm sure he doesn't want his address all over the place.
