Pelican Parts Stupid question regarding smilies?

Some of the smilies are small animations. They move or do things.

How come they don't do on my computer? What do I need for my Internet Explorer?

This one for example doesn't move on my computer He just stands there with his arms hanging down the sides.

When you post a message there is a Options section under your reply. You probably have Disable smiles checked, UNcheck it.

Animated gifs (that's what those little guys are called) only work in web browsers. Animated gifs are composed of many pictures with some code that tells them how to cycle. If you try to open one in a graphics program, you will only see one of the images. You need to use a special graphics program to view and create animated gifs.

Hmm I haven't checked the "Disable smilies" box. They still don't work. I'm not interested in opening, altering or creating gif files. I suspect that my current computer is missing some program or add on that makes the smilies function? Smilies always worked on my previous computer - that was with windows 95, not XP as I have now.

I have XP. They work. It's a security setting. Go to Menu TOOLS. Select INTERNET OPTIONS. Click the ADVANCED tab. Scroll down to MULTIMEDIA. I bet that "Play animations on web pages" is not checked. Check it and hit apply. Then when you refresh the page, it'll work.

Damn I thought that was it. Very good advice, but unfortunately the box was already checked. Wierd.

Perhaps I ought to reinstall XP and everything, but it's so time consuming and I don't really feel like it.....
