1,600 mile 79 SC for sale...

Just came across this on the RM Auction web site, scheduled to be sold in Monterey later this month. Price estimate is $30-40k

http://www.rmauctions.com/events/catalogcar.cfm?scode=mo03&sNumber=170

RM is pleased to have this virtually new California example at auction. This one-owner-from-new car has traveled less than 1,600 miles. The original warranty book shows three stamps from service by the dealer: 1987 at 302 miles, 1991 at 676 miles and 1993 at 778 miles. There are several other service records that accompany this example, showing regular oil changes. The window sticker, unused key fob, original key-code card, owner’s manual with jacket, radio instruction manual and everything else that originally came with the car is still with it today. It is riding on the original Pirelli P-7 tires that do not show any signs of cracking or age. Complimenting the burgundy metallic paint is the rare, factory chrome targa bar and trim that was not available after 1979. The flat black trim used on the later 911SCs isn’t as striking.

It was on ebay earlier this year, didn't get much over 15K if my memory is any good.

I've seen it for sale too more than a year ago. It's funny how the mileage thing can get carried away.
I guess the guy who owned it thought it would be a good investment to keep it like new?

Maybe Ozie Osborn will buy it for his Kid

Love how the fact that the original owner didn't tick the black trim box on his order form, gets turned into rare chrome option. Gives it more of a retro look, but no way is it worthmore than 15-16k IF it was stored properly
I see dead injection parts , needing replacement, in its near future.......

I bet the jacket for the owner's manual, key code card, and radio instruction manual must add at least $1K to the ad-writer's 'perceived market value' of this car!

Did I miss out seeing those early '70s convertible versions of the 911?

RM does seem to be a bit ambitious on their price estimates. They also have this 66 912 with 54,000 miles estimated at $20-35k

I have the key code card, radio manual and original jacket too. I think I could let them go for $1K. The original pushbutton Blau radio though would be an extra $2K.

Just my opinion...for a 911, i think its about as Ugly as could be. Black Fuchs, Orange color...Targa...chrome trim... = Fugly.

They should just raffle that thing off for charity, and some lucky 16 year old can get an old targa for $2.00. That's an ugly piece that will need a lot of work.

how do you get "regular oil changes" on a 24 yr old car with only 1,600 miles? Does that mean they change the oil once every 5 years? I don't know exactly what gas mileage stock carreras get but at 1600 miles at 20mpg, thats only 81 gallons in its lifetime. Wonder how old the gas in the tank is now?

I THINK THAT FOR THEY GUYS WHO REMEMBER THIS CAR WHEN IT CAME OUT, THERE IS A GREATER APPRECIATION OF R ITS ORIGINALITY, BUT, AFTER I RIPPED INTO THAT PERFECTLY GOOD ORIGINAL 57 CHEVY IN 1996 AND MADE IT MY WAY, IT IS RARE THAT I LEAVE ONE ALONE ANYMORE. I FIX EM THE WAY i LIKE EM NOW!! I DONT KNOW WHY I CHANGED, I JUST FLIPPED ONE DAY.....WELL, MAYBE WHEN THAT P CAR PASSED ME I GOT MAD.......LOL

These can't be $1000? Really? I just wish I'd got the black jacket instead of the funky rust color.

I don't think I'd advertise that my tire rubber is 24 years old but still "looks OK". Nah! Too much liability in that claim. Even for Pirelli rubber.

mid 50's bugs are special...a 63 isn't imho. But maybe the march of time has caught up to the "lesser years".
