Anyone have A/C on their carbureted 911??

Any clearance issues with the compressor and intake manifold or carb?

I've got a sander compressor on a 2.2T, I have no clearance issues. Biggest problem is the idle (it's a compromise btw too high when the AC is off and too low with the AC on).

Photos if you need.

Cheers

Do you know the model number?? Each model of the Sanden compressor has a different dimension with the 505 being the shortest housing and the 508 being longer by about 3/4".

I just pulled the AC out of my 73 last night. I will try to get some pics of the right side area and the parts later on for you. My car has a 2.4 w/webers. I havent had a chance to get a real good look at the parts yet, but I think the air cleaner housing was modified to fit around the compressor. I dont remember seeing any mods to the manifold.

Do you guys have the K&N air filter setup or stock? How does the condenser fit?

John,
You took the words right out of my mouth. There are two issues I see here: Clearance with the compressor and carbs, and clearance with a decklid condenser and air cleaners. Here's a pic I grabbed somewhere of a setup using a lower profile air cleaner (than my K&N watershield). Not sure if that's a Seiko or Sanden compressor.

Eric

Sorry for the delay. Here are some pics of my carbs, the compressor, and the comp area in my car. No shot of the condensor that was mounted on the tail or the front clip, they went out in the garabge yesterday. I didnt have any condensor clearance problems with this setup though.

Thanks for the pics! I see the air cleaner housings have been modified to allow the compressor to fit.

So you're saying that the K&N filter setup won't work? Eric, what kind of filter do you have on your car? Where did you get them? Can you show me how the evaporator is setup? Pictures please.

John,
Looking in through the decklid grill at my K&N watershields, I can only see maybe 3/4" clearance for a condenser. I might be able to smash it in but don't like the idea. This is a 911SC motor with a 46mm PMO conversion so maybe my cleaners are higher up in the engine compartment.

I have a 507 Sanden Compressor in my 1972 911 Porsche. I have no clearance problems. You will need to set the RPM, 100 RPM higher to recompensate the RPM lost when the a/c is on. Example. my 911 idle speed is 1000 RPM with the a/c on the RPM is 900. Tha are the correct idle speed for this engine. My Weber have K&N filters with watershield plates and there is any problem.
