Wouldn't Start - Now it's Fine??
 

Went on a long ride this past weekend on one of the hottest days of the year. Stopped for a short while and when I tried to restart the engine would not turn over? All the electrical came on and worked but just the starter would not turn. Push started the car (no problem) and the car has been starting perfectly since. I know it will return at the most inconvenient time so I thought I should try to figure out what went wrong?? Any ideas?

While the car was stopped someone placed my two year old nephew in the car? He was playing with and turning every knob he could reach and I also found the alarm key in the ignition? Wondering if there was anything he could have done to affect the starting?

I had a similar problem on my SC a couple years ago, it ended up being the starter solenoid. After a drive of 15 minutes or more it wouldn't allow the starter to engage. Then if you let it cool down for an hour or so, all was fine. You can take the starter assembly off and have it tested at a local auto parts store to see if this is you problem.

I think this is one of those inherent SC features. Porsche repair bulletin #C911NOSC says best option is to replace with Carrera model.

It's seems to be a pretty common failure of the OEM starter. when they get old something happens when it gets hot and it will not engage. Let the starter/engine cool down and it works. You can R&R and clean out for good results or think of this as a good excuse to get a high torque starter and drop a couple of pounds in the process.
