Lowering

Mounted a set of 7 and 8x16 in fuchs the other night - they look fantastic! BUT - now my baby is in dire need of a drop. I good ince by the looks (and measurement) of it.

I view this as one of those 'let a professional do it so you dont screw it up' events to I plan on taking the car into my guy to have him to the deed.

Couple questions:

1.) While Im in there, should I install a bump steer kit? (Im shooting for a 'tad' below Euro ride height).

2.) While Im in there, should I install turbo tie rods? (There is ZERO play in the wheel - razor sharp sterring)

3.) How much 'ball park' should I expect to pay for A. Just a drop and alignment and B. A + rods and a bump steer kit? Anyone who has had their car professionally dropped, how much did it set you back?

Thanks!

Did all that myself, so I don't know what a shop would charge, but I strongly recommend the bump steer and the turbo tie rods. Depending on how much room you have in the rear to adjust the spring plate will dictate the lowering cost. If they have to re-index the rear torsion bars that can double the cost?

Yes on the bump steer & turbo tie rods.

Also make sure you take to someone who can corner balance it when they lower it. A lot of places will just match the fender height instead of putting it on scales. That maybe fine if the world was perfect but…

I second the DIY approach. You can do it, and you will learn so much more about your car. The parts will be under $200. When it’s done, set the alignment up the best you can and then take it in for a corner balance and alignment, another $200. Shoot, might as well rebuild the suspension “while your in there.”

I have seen lots of quotes on this board. It seems the lowest run about $350-$400, with the max at about $1200 (all quotes are for lowering cornerbalancinc and alignment)

I personally had someone tell me $1200. When I get the time I'm going to do it my d@mn self.

consider a compromise..dropping the front is really easy, as is installing the bump steer kit. I did that and also installed new sway bar bushings up front and did the Turbo tie rods (and I am not real mechanically talented). I balked at the rear torsion bars though and paid a shop 250 to do them (Make sure and tell them to leave the adjustment on the swing arm either at 1/2 way or lower so you can raise it if needed. (Speed bumps, driveways etc become a real hassle if you go below euro height..I KNOW the hard way).
The car looks much better and seemed better at DE's

Big yes on the bump steer kit you could kill yourself if you're going that low without it. Do it yourself. Easy job...learn lots.. feel good. can't say on the tubro TR don't have them, really don't plan on it.
