Distributor woes

I've just replaced my right-hand side intake manifold and fitted all back together. Well almost all.

When I came to fit the spark plug wires back to the distributor I got stuck! I can't find the drawing I made to remind me which goes where ...

This is on a 1969 911S ... the firing order is 1-6-2-4-3-5 according to my Haynes manual...

Can anyone have a look at their distributor and let me know please ?

Thank you very much in advance...

Number 1 should be marked on the distributor base. I don't remember whether you distributor rotates clockwise or counter clockwise but once someone chimes in and tells you just follow the firing order from there.

I found this post:

Um, the wiring order is the same as the firing order, 162435. Is that your question?

Put the motor at TDC on #1 (there should be a little mark on the distributor about where the rotor is pointing. This is where the #1 wire goes. Then just put on 6,2,4,3,5.

Could be that it was too dark - but I couldn't see a mark on the distributor cap. Can I assume that spark plug cable #1 belongs on the whole that is the one immediately to the left of the fastening clamp? (on the 'front' of the distributor so to say - ie towards the rear-end of the car) ?

AME the mark is a small notch about the width of a pencil led on the top edge of the distributor housing, not the cap. It is in about the 4 or 5 o'clock position.

Aah! I never thought to look there. I only look on the cap.

Thanks and hopefully I'll get it sorted.

Ideally there'd be a drawing of left and right cylinder banks showing which cables go where - made especially for newbies such as myself
