SC airbox differences?

Seems like I recall some minor but possibly important differences between 78-79 SC's airbox and the 80-83 version..anybody recall this or have part numbers?
I fellow Pelikan-ite has offered what he believes is an 81 airbox ...for my 78.

There are some differences in the SC airboxes.

Assuming you are talking US cars:

The 78/79 US airbox uses slightly larger intake runners than the 80-83 US airbox. (The Euro SC used the same larger 78/79 airbox all throughout the production run).

In 1981, the airbox was also modified to deliver fuel separately into each intake runner to try to prevent the thing from backfiring and blowing up. You can spot those metal lines when you look into an 81-83 airbox.

I don't think you'd want to put the smaller intake airbox on your '78. And, even if you did, I think you'd also need the smaller intake runners going to the cylinders.

I'm glad I had a vague recollection of the differences, appreciate your input.

It didn't work though- ask me how I know :)

The modification to "deliver fuel separately into each intake runner" was part of the starting circuit only. Fuel was delivered from the 7th injector (the starting injector) only during startup. It was not active during normal operation, unless the 7th injector did not close properly, leaking fuel into the system.
